PostHeaderIcon What’s the link between aging and hair loss?

There are certain things that you simply cannot avoid or make work otherwise and the process of aging is one of the best examples for such things. There’s no going around it and while some people tend to get dramatic about getting older with each year passing it’s definitely wiser to take things as they are simply because you can’t do anything about it. Sure, the process of aging isn’t a very pleasant thing to deal with especially when your realize that you’ve already passed the point of youth. There are many processes going on in the body as the person ages and it’s hard o say that they are pleasant. First of all the body becomes weaker, the muscles lose their shape even if you’ve been exercising all your life, the cardiovascular system will work not as perfectly as earlier, the mind won’t be as sharp. There will be serious hormonal changes as the amount of testosterone will drop gradually leading to decrease in libido, less effectiveness in exercising, behavior changes and numerous visual changes. At this point it is believed that one of the most evident signs of aging – balding and hair turning gray — are due to the hormonal changes the body goes through.

Still, if you can’t do anything about aging in general this doesn’t mean that you can’t overcome the effects of it namely hair loss. Moreover, it’s not an evident fact that hair loss results from aging since there are many younger people with perfect health who still experience hair thinning and balding at earlier stages of their lives. And fortunately for men who struggle with hair loss problems there are effective medications that can stop and reverse this problem. Sure, drugs like Propecia won’t make you younger but they will address the actual problem that is causing hair loss in the first place.

It was discovered that male pattern hair loss is primarily caused by hormonal changes that usually take place as the person ages but can also be present at earlier stages. To be more precise the problem at cause is the build-up of a specific hormone named dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which results from the conversion of testosterone over time. In some people the rates at which this androgen gets accumulated are very low so they don’t have any hair loss even when they get old. While others have very high rates and deal with male pattern hair loss in their 20′s and 30′s. The main effect of DHT build-up in the body is that it starts shrinking and weakening the hair follicles, reducing natural hair growth rates that become insufficient for keeping the scalp covered with hair.

At this point the most effective method for dealing with male pattern hair loss is reducing the concentration of DHT in the bloodstream and drugs like propecia work exactly like that. Sure, taking drugs on a regular basis may be not the most convenient way of dealing with the problem but as a result you can stop and reverse hair loss regardless of your age. And isn’t it what a lot of men want in the end?

PostHeaderIcon Phases of HCG Diet Program

Phases of HCG Diet Program
In my clinic, I have four phases of the HCG Diet Program. Most other programs will only have three and group the first two phases together. However I feel that every stage is extremely important and needs to be considered individually. I separate them into Loading Phase, HCG 500 Calorie Phase, Maintenance Phase and then Life Phase.

HCG Diet Loading Phase I
Now this phase is usually grouped with the 500 calories phase. But I feel this does a disservice to you by not showing the importance of this phase. When done correctly, this phase will set you up to lose the maximum amount of weight. The loading phase it the first two days on the HCG. You start taking your HCG, but instead of only doing 500 calories, you load. You eat everything in sight. You want to eat foods high in fat and carbohydrates. You are getting your body set to lose the maximum amount of weight. The way this works is simple. Your body always wants to stay “normal” without any drastic changes. Your body’s “normal” is your current body weight. Your body has held this weight for a while and tries to maintain as close to this weight as possible, with only slight loses or gains. Now this is why most diets do not work. Most people’s idea of dieting is to eat a lot less and essentially starve your body. So your body does start to drop weight, but with the sudden weight loss and the decrease in food intake, your body panics and puts itself into a “Starvation” mode. Then what happens is that the moment you stop your diet and go back to normal eating habits you start to gain weight. Since your body is in a “starvation mode” your body tends to overcompensate and you not only gain the weight you lost but also a few pounds more. It will eventually come out of the “starvation mode” and your body will eventually settle into it new, usually heavier, “normal.” So what we are trying to do by loading is trick your body but in an opposite way. We are changing your body’s “normal” by having it gain weight quickly, thus forcing your body to try to compensate for the quick weight gain. When this happens it will overcompensate and cause you to have maximum weight loss in those first few days. This is the time to over-indulge yourself with all those foods that you love but feel guilty eating. You really want to eat so much that your stomach is overly full. You should be able to gain between three to five pounds if done correctly. Remember it is only for the first two days while on the HCG.

HCG Diet: 500 Calorie Diet Phase II
The 500 calorie diet portion of this diet is the best known part. Here is where you stick to a strict diet eating two meals a day equaling 500 calories total for the day (not per meal). This is where you will lose most of your weight while doing the HCG Diet. For each meal you get a choice of one protein, one vegetable, one fruit and one bread. A few important similarities are to cook your meals without oils, lard or spam. Use only water and the foods natural juices. Also do not mix vegetables, you only get one per meal. So if you choose lettuce for your lunch, it is only lettuce, not lettuce and onions. But a good thing to point out here is that if you do choose lettuce for lunch, try to choose a different vegetable for your dinner meal. A lot of my patients ask why we only get one vegetable at a time. It is because we are training the digestive system how to break down our foods we are eating. We are trying to get what I like to call a “clean burn.” Most people who eat a salad for example not only have lettuce in their salad, but also have cucumbers, croutons, cheese, salad dressing (usually high fat) and cherry tomatoes. Well your body will break down the high fat and high carbohydrates first before breaking down the healthier vegetables last where you get the least benefit from them. Another tip I would like to mention here is to separate your fruits from your meal. I advise my patients to eat their fruit before or between meals. For example have an apple in the morning before your lunch and have your orange between lunch and dinner. The reason for this is two-fold: in the beginning it will help you with your hunger because you are splitting up your calories throughout the day and keeping your sugar levels maintained. Then as you get into about the second week of your 500 Calorie HCG diet, you will notice that it is harder to eat all your calories at each meal. So if you get yourself in the habit of separating the fruit from the beginning, it will make it easier to eat your 500 total calories in one day.

HCG Diet: Maintenance Phase III
The Maintenance phase of the HCG Diet is the most important phase of the diet. This is where all your hard work pays off and you maintain the benefits of your weight loss. With most diets you will lose weight, but the moment you stop the diet you tend to gain your weight back and then some. With the maintenance program we are now resetting your bodies “normal” weight to your new weight. Your weight must stabilize. Once reset, your body will want to maintain this weight without any drastic changes.

The maintenance phase is a three week phase so you can maintain your body weight within two pounds of your final weigh in. During this phase you are still restricted on your diet, but your menu does open up quite a bit. A few of the thing added are your dairy products, certain nuts, and you now get to mix some of your fruits and vegetables. We do another body analysis on our patient to determine their BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) which will determine the amount of calories they can eat without gaining any weight. So it is required to still count your calories during this phase, but you will quickly learn the proper amount of food to eat at each meal and be able to get away from having to count all your calories. This is the time where you come mindful of your body and it’s needs. When eating you will want to eat until you are satisfied not full. Feeling satisfied is fairly easy to do since you have been eating 500 calories for several weeks. It takes your brain around 10 minutes to realize that you are satisfied and then tells your stomach that you are full.

It takes around 21 days for your body to stabilize and accept your body’s weight. The reason that this is the most important phase, is because if done properly you will benefit from all your weight loss and be able to maintain your weight loss with very little effort.

HCG Diet: Life Phase IV
Life phase is the best and easiest if all the other phases when done correctly. Now it’s time to enjoy the new healthier you and indulge in the foods you love without feeling guilty. In Life you now take what you learned in Phase III of the HCG Diet and apply to all your foods and your new lifestyle. You can now eat all foods within moderation. Just listen to your body and watch the amount you are eating. Don’t go back to old habits and eat everything on your plate and eating till you feel full. Instead enjoy your foods, don’t feel guilty having desserts and sweets but do all this within moderation. Still weight yourself every other day if not daily to keep an eye on your weight. The biggest secret to life is to indulge and enjoy your foods once or twice a week and just watch what you eat the next day or two.

PostHeaderIcon Medical Marijuana – Legal Uses For Pain Issues and Cancer Health Problems

Dating back to ancient times, marijuana has been used to aid associated discomfort of medical ailments. Until the invention of aspirin in 1897, people used medical marijuana to relieve body pain in adults as well as alleviate nausea, depression, hemorrhoids and to treat women after they gave birth.

Nowadays, it is considered a natural alternative in the treatment of certain cancers, neurological disorders such as Alzheimer’s’ disease and dementia, AIDS/HIV and chronic pain associated with arthritis, injuries and premenstrual syndrome.

In the United States it is against the law to possess, sell or buy it, as it is narcotic like cocaine and heroin; thirteen states allow the sale of this with the written consent of a physician. Without a doctor’s approval, a person cannot legally receive a card issued by their state which allows them to buy it at a dispensary.

Dispensaries sell this in many forms such as growing seeds, food and drink products, liquid form and as a concentrated pill to be swallowed. Some of these even have a special area to consume the product or offer child care during a patient visit. Patients who buy it for legitimate health reasons can get it at any legal dispensary or clinic permitted by their state to sell only to those with a medical card.

Recently President Obama passed a policy to not charge patients who comply with state laws. In a recent interview, he stated that health care reform and other issues were of greater priority.

For nausea and pain control, some people have been able to use self-hypnosis successfully to help mitigate symptoms. It is best to study with a trained and certified professional if you decide to go this route.

PostHeaderIcon Why does advertising work?

Here’s a number to start us off. Marketers spend about $70 billion a year on TV ads! That’s a lot of cash! But companies out to make a profit would not spend that much on ads unless there was good evidence they work. Except, what is it, exactly, that ads do? The myth is marketers want you to buy a product the first chance you have. It’s like the old movie joke about cinemas so desperate to boost sales of ice cream, they would turn up the heating during the first feature and trigger a rush for something cool by showing an ad at the start of the intermission. The majority of ads are designed to sit in your memory. It’s like the Geico ads with the caveman or, more specifically the pig who cries wee all the way home.

There’s good evidence that hard selling techniques create a negative impression. We all take some pride in our ability to resist. So the aim is to build up brand awareness. Over time, we associate each brand with the product or service. The challenge is then to convert these memories of an amusing ad or catchy slogan into action. After all, why go to all the trouble of planting the seed if you don’t then go on to encourage people to buy later on? Except, marketers have no real control over our actions. Most of us use the ad break to make a quick cup of coffee or empty the bladder of all the coffee we’ve drunk over the evening. No one ever sits down to watch the ads. All we do is catch glimpses of the ads in passing. This constant repetition is like drip-feed, slowly building up brand awareness so that, if we’re making a decision on which product or service to buy at some time in the future, we might buy the one with the most memorable ad.

Creativity is what sells brand awareness. We remember the funny ads, or the strange ads, or the visually interesting ads, or the ads with the best music tracks. So now imagine you’re going to be paid a big chunk of cash to create a memorable ad for an erectile dysfunction drug. If you’re selling a car, you can show it accelerating from 0 to 60 in five seconds. Imagine the response of the television stations if you showed the pill producing an erection in record time. That would really test the First Amendment. So you need to sneak up on people and, hopefully, slip past their defenses before they know you’re there.

Have you seen that ad for Cialis? The one where the couple end up in separate tubs. This is one of the weird ones, isn’t it? Everyone would expect to see the happy couple gazing into each other’s eyes, perhaps hugging or, at least, holding hands. So what’s with the separate washing arrangements? Except the moment you ask the question, you’re hooked. It’s memorable because it makes you think. Like the woman driving the pig home. Her long-suffering expression says everything that needs to be said. Repeat the ad often enough and people associate the ad with the brand name. So remember Cialis really can give you 15% more on your erections.

PostHeaderIcon Nexium and those changes to your diet

To get ourselves started, let’s start with a simple reassurance: there are some excellent drugs on the market that will treat even the most serious outbreak of heartburn. They are called proton pump inhibitors and they work by reducing the amount of stomach acid your body produces. The good news is there’s less acid to leak out of your stomach and cause the pain. The bad news is that, with less acid in your stomach, it takes longer to process the food. So put the drugs to one side for a moment and think about the problem. When food passes into the mouth and, after chewing, falls down towards the stomach, your body gets ready to break the food down into its chemical ingredients. The good stuff gets syphoned into the blood stream and sent off to where its going to do the most good. All the rest gets expelled from the body. The $64,000 question is how the stomach does the processing. It all starts with the acid, but mixed into it are a series of different enzymes to help break down the different types of food. Your body is a very clever machine and, left to its own devices, it produces just enough acid and enzymes to clear the stomach quickly.

If your body “likes” the food, it sends a pleasure message to the brain. This encourages you to remember what the body likes and to eat or drink more of it. Unfortunately, the body likes the food that puts on the unwanted pounds. That’s why you get a buzz when you eat or drink something sweet or savory. When food with a high-fat content arrives in the stomach, you feel good and the body orders more stomach acid to break it down. If there was only a small amount of food, it would quickly fall down the esophagus and the extra acid would stay in the stomach. But if you are eating a lot, the sphincter separating the esophagus from the stomach is kept open to keep the food on the move. The food pushes the acid out of the stomach. Worse, if you don’t sit up straight, the acid can also run into the esophagus. Either way, that burning pain starts. Lying down immediately after a big meal is asking for pain.

So eat less and avoid food with a high-fat content. Indeed, all processed food is potentially bad news. Read through all the diet advice from reliable sources like the Mayo Clinic. It’s actually very simple. Keep with lean meat like chicken and turkey. Fish is equally good. Add plenty of vegetables and fresh fruit. Whole grains and low-fat diary products complete the package. It’s even better if you do a little exercise. You will feel better in yourself and your stomach’s performance will improve. Heartburn will be a forgotten problem without you having to buy and rely on Nexium. This is not to deny the excellence of the drug. It’s consistently been shown the best of the proton pump inhibitors. But, no matter how good Nexium, it’s always better to solve a medical problem the natural way – particularly if it also saves the cost of having to buy the drugs.
